Uruguay Celeste Deporte y Diversidad is a Montevideo-based LGBTQ+ sports club whose amateur soccer team provides a safe, inclusive environment. Founded in 2006 (before the first Gay World Cup in 2007), it was born to give a space to gay players "who had no place in football" . The club’s goal is described as making sport a space that "gives free field to pride" , reflecting its mission of promoting diversity and fighting discrimination in sport.
