Queer Sports Leagues in Detroit

The Rainbow League is a long-running LGBT-friendly bowling league based in Ann Arbor. Celebrating its 33rd season in 2025–26, it bowls at Lodge Lanes every Wednesday at 7:00pm and welcomes bowlers of all skill levels in a fun, mixed-gender format .

Stonewall Sports Detroit also sponsors a bowling league that meets at the Renaissance Bowling Center in Detroit. For example, winter seasons have run with the entire alley reserved for the league, providing a fun, all-abilities bowling environment .

Stonewall Sports Detroit’s Kickball League launched in 2019 to bring queer kickball to Metro Detroit. The league (now over 200 players strong) offers low-cost, no-equipment kickball seasons in spring and summer, welcoming both newcomers and veteran players to join the fun and community .

Stonewall Sports Detroit’s Billiards League is an inclusive pool league open to all skill levels. The league, started in Fall 2021, welcomes everyone from cue-ball novices to seasoned players for a fun and social pool experience .

The OUTturn Curling League is an LGBTQ+ curling league that plays at the Detroit Curling Club in Ferndale. It provides a welcoming curling environment for LGBTQ+ curlers of all skill levels .

The Michigan International Gay Rodeo Association (MIGRA) organizes the annual Greater Motown International Rodeo at the Wayne County Fairgrounds (Belleville, MI). It is an amateur gay rodeo run under International Gay Rodeo Association guidelines, raising funds for local charities (e.g. Southeast Michigan Food Gleaners, Ruth Ellis Center) and serving the LGBT community in the Detroit area .

Motown Frontrunners is the Detroit-area LGBTQ running club (affiliated with Frontrunners). Describing themselves as a group of ‘masochists, enthusiasts, fanatics and other social beings dedicated to conversation (at times, while running)’, they meet regularly (e.g. Wednesdays at 6:30pm at Pronto’s in Royal Oak and Saturday mornings) and run courses around the Detroit Zoo .

Out For Kicks Detroit is a Metro Detroit LGBTQ-friendly soccer league focused on recreational play and skill development. The league encourages players of all levels (especially beginners) to participate in a fun, supportive environment. It forms teams to play in local leagues and tournaments, emphasizing inclusivity, skill-building, and enjoyable competition .

The Metro Detroit LGBT Softball League (MDSL) was founded in 1985 and now comprises ~300 players of all abilities.
