About this event
Stoked to announce YELLOWUHURU gracing the 宀 podium for the first time, after over a decade of exciting the senses and broadening the music palette of the whole continent and beyond. A highly respected selector, organizer, and an important instigator of Japan’s contemporary underground, YELLOWUHURU arrives to happily dissolve genres and conflicting elements into a fluid, cohesive narrative. The shapeshifter extraordinaire understands music through the prisms of house and jazz music, easily venturing into techno, deep house, dub, and a myriad of leftfield electronics or oddball obscurities. Importantly, the South African-born but firmly Tokyo-based DJ is the founder of FLATTOP, a highly influential party and label collective serving as a laboratory for avant-garde street culture and outsider electronic music that just might inspire generations. YELLOWUHURU's influence is felt far beyond Tokyo's basements and into the fabric of Japan's scene, becoming a regular fixture of rural and other underground electronic music festivals, while he frequently plays most respected listening bars and clubs, including Mitsuki, Bonobo, Contact, and Red Bar. His presence extends globally through standout radio outings on New York's PACIFIC MODE and The Lot Radio, and his timeline sees him breaking further into European and regional territories, getting to play at Berlin's Berghain, London's Ormside Projects, and finally HK's 宀. This one's for the heads. Shake it if you got it.
