About this event
Join David Duffield, co-founder and coordinator of the Center LGBTQ History Project for Colorado, for a walking tour exploring Queer Capitol Hill. The tour will take you through Bachelor’s Row, highlighting how single apartments provided privacy for a closeted community, and discuss how public spaces served as refuges and connection points for LGBTQ individuals. It will also examine how laws like anti-crossdressing statutes and R-0 zoning contributed to the policing and segregation of queer Denver. The tour will visit significant sites such as the first headquarters of the Gay Coalition of Denver, apartments for the Denver Area Mattachine Society, and the original headquarters of the Gay Community Center of Colorado, showcasing the legacy of activism rooted in Capitol Hill’s streets, parks, and private spaces.
