Chiang Mai has a relaxed, welcoming LGBTQ+ scene around Nimmanhaemin Road and Santitham (Warm Up Café, Infinity Club, Adam's Apple, Circle Pub). Chiang Mai Pride returned in 2019 after a long hiatus; June Pride Month brings parades and events. The city is very safe and open-minded for queer travelers.

Chiang Mai Pride 2025 is a three-day celebration making history as the first province in Thailand to host a full-scale Pride event. It features a seminar on gender diversity, elderly pride contests, photo and art competitions, a grand parade starting at the Buddhist Center and Tha Phae Gate, an ambassador contest, and an after-party called Sapphic Riot. The event aims to promote diversity, equality, and acceptance, transforming Chiang Mai into Southeast Asia’s most exciting Pride destination.

Chiang Mai Pride 2025

On May 25, 2025, Chiang Mai hosted the Chiang Mai Pride 2025 Parade and Celebration at Tha Phae Gate, marking Thailand's first official Pride Month celebration in the province. The event included a parade along a route across central Chiang Mai from Buddhist Site to Night Bazaar and Tha Phae Gate, with activities such as a Pride Parade, official opening ceremony with speeches, live music, and light shows. The celebration aimed to promote LGBTQ+ rights, inclusion, and social transformation, with a focus on empowering the community and fostering acceptance. The event was part of a broader program from May 23 to 27, featuring cultural performances, panel discussions, art contests, and exhibitions at various venues including Pantip Lifestyle Hub and Tha Phae Gate.

Chiang Mai Pride 2025 Parade and Celebration

The Chiang Mai Colourful Pride Month 2024 event, organized in collaboration with the Pakhee network and LGBTQ+ diversity groups, marks the start of Thailand's Pride season. Scheduled from May 26th to June 30th, 2026, the event features a parade beginning at a Buddhist temple, passing through Tha Phae Road to Tha Phae Gate for the opening ceremony, along with concerts, Rainbow Dance performances, a Colourful Contest with prizes over 15,000 baht, and various Pride-related activities throughout the month. The event aims to promote gender equality, social acceptance, and stimulate tourism, contributing over 7.5 billion baht to the economy. It also plans to establish Chiang Mai as a year-round tourism destination through the 'Chiang Mai 12 Months 12 Themes' initiative, with the Pride Festival as a highlight in June.
