About this event
A free monthly film from the argos collection, showcased on your screen during the first half of 2026. This screening is part of the 'Becoming Ancestors' exhibition. The film documents the artist's stay in Cameroon, exploring how participation in funeral rites blurs the Western distinctions between life and death. It depicts celebrations where the dead remain present, creating a space where ancestry is a living continuum. The film follows a solitary outsider observing extravagant funerals and death celebrations, revealing local beliefs that the dead are not truly gone, a perspective resilient against colonization, Christianity, and globalization. As the outsider bonds with local guides, he becomes increasingly haunted by memories of his ancestors.
